Following the unfortunate airside incursion at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Friday, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has suspended the Aviation Security unit heads who were on duty when the incident occurred.
The suspension remains indefinite pending the completion of ongoing investigation into the security infringement.
FAAN’s General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu gave the names of the affected officers as Mamman Sadiku who is the Airport Chief of Security and Oni Abiodun, the International Terminal Security Officer.
Others are the Head of Department Domestic Terminal 2, Owotor Okezie and Head of Department Domestic Terminal 1, Badejo Ayodele.
In the interim, a General Manager of the Authority, Dr Anne Enyinnaya-Egbadon, has been detailed to take charge of security at the airport while other affected officers have also been replaced.
According to Mrs Yakubu, the current arrangement is aimed at ensuring an efficient and thorough investigation towards the recovery and sustenance of the airport’s proactive security integrity.
“FAAN views this breach as a serious security concern and has commenced investigation to ascertain the remote and immediate causes of this incident to forestall future occurrence,” the GM Corporate Affairs stressed.
Recall that earlier on Friday, passengers aboard a Port Harcourt-bound Azman Air flight were thrown into panic when an unknown man was seen climbing the aircraft as it prepared for taxiing at the holding bay of Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja.
A viral video taken by a passenger aboard the flight in the midst of the confusion showed the strange man on one of the wings of the airplane with a hand luggage.
He was also seen keeping his luggage inside one of the engines.
Some of the passengers mistook the man for a suicide bomber as they were heard talking about bag with him.
The General Manager Corporate Affairs later confirmed that the man had been arrested by the police.
