YENAGOA – Stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa East Senatorial District have insisted that the area must produce the running-mate to the party’s flag bearer, Senator Douye Diri.
The stakeholders, under the auspices of Bayelsa East Forum for Justice, rejected the plot to rather zone the Speakership of the state House of Assembly to the district if Diri, who hails from Central District, wins the November 16 governorship election.
The present Speaker of the House, Tonye Isenah, is a kinsman of Diri from the same Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.
Addressing a press conference in Yenagoa on Monday, the Chairman, Bayelsa East Forum for Justice, Monday Eribo, said the district was the natural choice to produce the deputy governorship candidate of the party.
Eribo, who is a three-time commissioner in the state’s Civil Service Commission, condemned moves to zone the deputy governorship slot to Bayelsa West.
He said that any attempt to pick a running mate from Bayelsa West would not be in the best interest of the PDP.
Eribo stressed that the plot to use the current senator representing Bayelsa West at the National Assembly, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, as running mate, was even more of a huge political risk as “Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo is a bad market at this point in time because he hails from Sagbama Local Government (as Governor Seriake Dickson).”
