The Rector, Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, Prof. Gbemiga Adewale has advised the government to devote their efforts to one agricultural development programme per time instead of spending the little resources on many programmes without impact.
This admonition was given by Prof. Adewale while delivering the Guest of the Month Lecture at Radio Nigeria, Premier FM 93.5, Ibadan on Thursday, May 30, 2019.
Prof. Adewale advised the government to identify and continue agricultural programmes that are meaningful in the previous administration. He noted that any neglect of the agricultural sector would be an invitation to dwindling economy, poverty, unemployment, destitution among others.
Prof. Gbemiga Adewale observed that most infrastructures at various farm settlements in places like Iresa-Adu, Akufo, Ilora, Eruwa and others are dilapidated and abandoned are awaiting rehabilitation.
He therefore, appealed to the government to rehabilitate the settlements and provide rural infrastructure such as good road networks, internet facilities, modern farm implements and the recruitment of agricultural extension personnel.
The Zonal Director of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Ibadan Zonal Station, Alhaji Mohammed Bello also described the lecture as timely and eye-opener for the incoming government.
He also described the programme as a way to create interest in young ones in the practice and reportage of agriculture.
