LOKOJA – The North Central States Advancement Forum has called on governments at all levels and the well-meaning members to honour those who have laid down their lives for humanity and the nation.
President of the forum, Mallam Garba Bako, made the call on Thursday in Lokoja, Kogi State capital, when it conferred their highest award on Rotimi Amaechi, former minister of transport, for his excellent service to Nigeria.
The forum also appealed to Nigerians to reward selfless service as an encouragement for patriotism, saying it was becoming disheartening that people who were selfless and hardworking were discouraged when their efforts were not appreciated.
Bako noted that the forum considered Amaechi for the award for his immeasurable achievements within two decades of his political engagement.
According to Bako, political actors in Nigeria should think more of service and not self, lamenting that the level of disenchantment by citizens was on the rise following failure of elected and appointed representative.
The forum charged political actors to make transparency and accountability their watchwords, describing Ameachi as a beacon of hope, whose participation in politics has been worthy of commendation.
