The Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, his Nigerian Air Force and Naval counterpart are set to be honoured for their leadership attributes across the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The chiefs of the Armed Forces would be honoured alongside the inspector general of police, Mohammed Adamu by the Global Initiative for Leadership Success.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, June 9, the chairman of the board of trustees for GILS, General A Mamman (retired) said the service chiefs will be honoured at the 2019 African Security Leadership Summit’s gala night.

The summit which will be declared open by President Muhammadu Buhari will be graced by the presence of a former head of state, General Yakubu Gowon (retired), security chiefs, ambassadors and security attaches from various African nations.

Taking place between Wednesday, June 19, and Thursday, June 20, the summit will also focus on strategies to encourage strengthen collaboration between security agencies in Nigeria and Africa at large.

Participants and resource persons drawn from Military and academic circles will engage the conference on fresh innovations in inter-agency synergy and security leadership effective for fighting evolving security challenges across the Africa.

Mamman said the Nigerian populace cannot be critics of the military and other security agencies at all times without engaging those who share the same vision of having desired change needed in Nigeria.

The retired general said no effort or sacrifice is way too much including the motivation of major actors in the fight against insurgency in Nigeria.

He said: “Let’s come together to continue to make recommendation on, probably, change of strategies on the challenges bedeviling our nation.”

Mamman noting that Nigeria still lacked the needed level of exchange of ideas between security agencies said the Nigerian Armed Forces is fully committed to all it will take to provide a secured environment for every citizen.

He said the continued demand for a more inclusive, innovative and proactive security measure is the major reason leaders of the various security agencies must be commended.

He said: “If we must be fair to ourselves and the security agencies, against the backdrop of insurgencies we have faced, I think the successes we have achieved should be applauded.”

Also speaking on recommendations in the fight against insurgency and conflict situations in Nigeria, Mamman said the importance of having challenges is that it better prepares a nation for involving its outfits in engaging in problem solving strategies.

“For instance, aside from the national budget for defence, there should be a war budget considering the situation we are currently faced with, the question is do we have that?” Mamman queried.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Buratai had on Monday, April 15, said Boko Haram activities have been confined only to the Lake Chad area and the Sambisa forest in Northeastern Nigeria.

The Army Chief assured that Nigerian Army is still in search of the remaining abducted Chibok girls still in Boko Haram captivity.

He noted that Boko Haram activities were reduced in the region due to the resilience of the military in collaboration with other security agencies.
