Lokoja – Kogi Civil Servants under the aegis of Concerned Kogi Workers Forum, (CKWF ) has called on the people of the state to give their maximum support to the aspiration of Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin Usman to rule the state as his wealth of experience will help to restore the lost glory of the state.
The group equally warned the National Working Committee ( NWC) of All Progressives Congress (APC) not to mortgage the state by giving the party ticket to the incumbent governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello whom they accused of bringing hardship and anguish to the workers and the people of the state.
In a statement signed by the spokesman of the group, Hassan Abdul, made available to Journalists in Lokoja on Sunday, appealed to the National Secretariat of the APC not to toy with the lives of workers in the state.
The workers stated that being the major beneficiaries of the inept administration of Gov. Bello known for his nonchalant attitude to payment of salaries, said that giving him another opportunity amount to killing Civil Servants by installment.
According to the statement, the forum is composed of workers who were arbitrarily sacked, those who have been cleared by Governor Bello’s screening committee, yet have not been paid for about thirty months, advised the APC to consider the interest of the state above the interest of one person while taking decision on the choice of their flag bearer.
The Concerned Workers lamented that never have Kogi state civil servants experienced hardship as they are presently experiencing, disclosed that a high number of workers and pensioners have died due to non-payment of salaries and other benefits.
The Spokesman pointed out that the workers would have no grouse with President Mohammadu Buhari and the APC, having repeatedly petitioned him of the plight of workers in Kogi, but giving the ticket to Bello will be a demonstration of the insensitivity of the APC to the plight of Kogi workers.
Abdul noted that their support for Vice Admiral Jibrin Usman was borne out of his antecedents as the Chief of Naval Staff when he gave his best to his communities and the state, in general, added that if giving the ticket, he has the capacity to Fastrack development and paying attention to the welfare of Worker.
The Concerned workers hinged their endorsement to the Naval Command Secondary School Okura, the Naval Base in Idah and Lokoja, were some institutions he attracted to the state, said the priority he placed on the workers of the institutions points to the fact that he would replicate the state if he is elected as governor.
The Workers described Usman Jibrin as matured, experienced and has the qualities needed to bail the state from its current mess, say he is the best thing that would happen to Kogi state if the APC field him as their candidate.
The Workers described the present administration of Gov. Bello as not friendly to workers, lamented that after several months of their being cleared by the screening committee, they still suffer unpaid salaries with no explanation from the government.
The workers who listed the bailout, Paris club refunds as some intervention to the state government to clear the backlog of salaries, but lamented at their continuing sufferings which necessitated their calling on the people, the APC to support the Naval boss to wrestle the state from bankruptcy and underdevelopment.
