YENAGOA – The lawmaker representing Ogbia Constituency 3 in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Naomi Ogoli, and Chairman of Ogbia Local Government Area, Ebinyon Turner, have called for concerted efforts to fix the Elebele Bridge destroyed by a long heavy-duty truck.
They made the call at the weekend when they jointly undertook an on-the-spot assessment of the collapsed Elebele Bridge at Elebele community.
In particular, Ogoli and Turner urged the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) Nigeria Limited, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to save the people from hardship.
The Elebele Bridge, which crosses the Kolo Creek at Elebele, had collapsed on Thursday, September 5, 2019 under the heavy weight of the truck, which was loaded with chipping dust.
The ill-fated truck with plate number NTE 144 XA AKWA IBOM was said to be conveying the material to the construction site of Nigerian Oil and Gas Park (NOGAP) at neighbouring Emeyal-I undertaken by the NCDMB.
Residents of the oil-producing Elebele community had been lamenting the hardship caused by collapse of the major bridge in the area.
The bridge connects several communities in the three local government areas of Ogbia, Nembe and Brass in Bayelsa East Senatorial District and Yenagoa, the state capital.
