Katsina – The Federal Roads Safety Commission (FRSC) has been urged to ensure the proper documentation of vehicles and persons coming in from neighboring Niger Republic to check the influx of arms and ammunition, as well end insecurity in the state.
Governor Aminu Bello Masari gave the charge when he received the new state sector commandant, Ali Sule Tanimu and his entourage at the Government House, Katsina on Monday.
Masari, who expressed his administration’s readiness to support the commission to ensure the security of lives and safe motoring across the state, said there is the need to ensure that vehicles from neighboring Niger Republic are properly checked to avert being used to move arms and dangerous implements into the state.
Similarly, he advocated for the re-orientation of motorists and cyclists on the dangers of over-loading and observation of speed limits, saying that what is more worrisome is the over-loading on vehicles and motorcycles, “the way it is being done is scaring”.
“There is need for the commission to be extra vigilant on motorists and cyclists, as it affects over-loading and speed limits, the laws must be strictly adhered to to make the roads safe for all those plying them”.
He also charged the command to look into the issue of unregistered motorcycles and other transportations such as tricycles “keke napep” which are being used by miscreants to cause havoc in various communities, adding that extra checks could reduce their usage for criminal acts.
He said the state government would partner with the commission to improve motoring and support its activities to enjoy accident-free movement on roads across the state.
Ali Sule Tanimu, the new state Sector Commandant of the Commission, earlier solicited the support of the state government to enable the command to excel in its duties in the state.
Tanimu promised to synergize with other security agencies in the state with a view to ensuring the needed intelligence-gathering and sharing to ensure a secured state.
