Swansea are reportedly set to complete the loan signing of Liverpool prospect Rhian Brewster despite hitting a standstill in the deal, the Independent have said.

Swansea always seemed to be the favourites to land the forward, with manager Steve Cooper having worked with the player during his time as England Under 17’s manager.

Wigan, Leeds and Blackburn were also thought to be in the running early on, but Swansea looks to be his ultimate destination.

Leeds were believed to be in pole position to sign the 19-year-old as a replacement for Jack Clarke, but the Yorkshire side will have to look elsewhere.

Rhian Brewster has a superb record for England’s youth academy, scoring 23 goals in 20 appearances with the under 17’s side.

The youngster is yet to properly test himself with first team football, only making a small number of cup appearances for Liverpool.

It will be interesting to see if the young forward can handle the physicality of the second tier, as Swansea look to retain their playoff spot.

The potential signing of Brewster will be a big boost to Swansea’s front line after the departure of Bournemouth’s Sam Surridge, who arrived on loan at the start of the season.

Whether Brewster is capable of filling those boots is another question. But, with the player potentially reuniting with his old manager, Swans fans will remain optimistic that Cooper can get the best out of the Liverpool prospect.

If this deal does go through, that would ultimately end any interest in previous target Lyndon Dykes.

The Livingston striker was linked with a move away from the Scottish Premiership, with numerous Championship clubs including Swansea reportedly being keen on a move for the Australian.

But, now that the Swans seem to be set on bringing in Brewster, the chances of Dykes arriving in Wales now look very slim.

But have they made the right call? Only time will tell.
