Abuja – As the February 16 presidential election draws nearer, the All Progressives Congress (APC) said it has opened telephone contacts and conversation with Nigerian electorate through which over twenty million had been reached.
Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Director of Field Operations of the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), made the disclosure on Monday in Abuja.
He said his field operations team had carried the presidential campaign to every community in the country through its door-to-door and telephone calls campaign, adding that more people would be reached before the Saturday poll.
For effective delivery on its mandate, he said the directorate was divided into three sub-committees for effective campaign.
According to him, the sub-committees are the telephone call team, the door-to-door canvassers, and the social media team.
The former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said the goal of the field operations team was to at least reach 50 million voters, pointing out that the directorate’s activity was funded via voluntary contributions from members.
He stated that majority of the 67, 000 youths working under his directorate as door-to-door canvassers or telephone canvassers were doing so as volunteers.
“Everybody working here is working as a volunteer. We don’t have money, but we are doing the job given to the directorate.
“We have the Christian, Muslim, and ethnic organisations working with us to campaign to Nigerians.”
According to him, the directorate’s duty was not to run down any candidate but to tell the electorate what the president had done and what the president would do if re-elected.
So far, he said, the directorate had done a lot in taking the campaign to individual voters and had asked the Presidential Campaign Council to assist the directorate to enable it reach out to those who had not been reached.
