Why approval was given for giant broom to be mounted at city gate – FCTA

– As the construction of a giant broom at the Federal Capital Territory continues to generate controversy, the FCT Department of Outdoors Advertisement Services has made clarifications

– DOAS says the construction does not deface the Federal Capital Territory, adding that APC got the approval for the broom to be mounted

– Other political parties were said to have been given approval to erect their trademarks

The FCT Department of Outdoors Advertisement Services (DOAS) has clarified its reason for approving the construction of a giant broom near the city gate of Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.

DOAS said the construction of the broom, which is the symbol of the All Progressives Congress (APC), followed due process, Daily Trust reports.

Legit.ng gathers that DOAS is the department in the FCTA empowered to register, authorise, bill, control, as well as collect revenues for advertising and signage within Abuja.

According to the coordinator of Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Umar Shuaibu, the APC got approval for the broom to be mounted.

He said: “We approved it because it is not defacing the city. So, just as we have been giving other political parties approval to erect their trademarks so long as they agree with our standard, why can’t we also approve this?

“If you look around the Airport Road, you will see a lot of other posters of several political parties, so this is not different from them.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the All Progressives Congress (APC) said it did not know anything about the construction of a giant broom at the Federal Capital Territory.

The construction of the broom has generated both heated argument in the political space and backlash from those who thought giant broom is an eye sore to the country’s capital.

There were many questions as regard the motive behind the citing of the broom at a space that contributes greatly to the aesthetics of the country.

The APC media secretary, Mallam Lanre Isa-Onilu said the party was not responsible for it but that it was built by Nigerians who love the party’s administration of the country.

In another previous report by Legit.ng, former deputy national publicity secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC) and ally of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Comrade Timi Frank, said that the Buhari-led administration and the APC were getting more desperate ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Comrade Frank made the comment in reaction to the arrest of former chairman of Skye Bank, Chief Tunde Ayeni, said to be an associate of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

In a statement sent to Legit.ng on Friday, February 8, Comrade Frank said there was a plan to frame up other associates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, lamenting over what he called the victimisation of opposition figures by the APC administration.
